Did you ever just have one of those days that actually went right? Well I met Julie today, she was fit with Phonak Exelia micro hearing instruments. She was squirming in her seat and I asked her if she was nervous and she replied ” no, I am excited”. Well there are very few people that are excited about getting hearing instruments for the first time. Well everything went very well and she couldn’t wait to get out into the world and give it a try….
I saw Julie about four days later and the first words out of her mouth were, ” I have never been this happy in my whole life”. She just went on and on about how she thought that there were not any birds on her street. She realizes now that the birds have been there all along and that she wasn’t hearing them.
The best story is about her friend Ginny who she says always talks very soft but now she can hear her very well. Ginny is twenty years younger than Julie. Well Julie used to babysit Ginny in New York, when Ginny was a little girl. They both happened to move to Florida, in the same city and only a couple blocks away. How weird is that?
Well Ginny is our patient as well, so Ginny referred Julie to us. Here is the kicker, Julie told me that she apologized to Ginny because she blamed Ginny for speaking softly.Well in fact it was Julie that could not hear. Julie admitted to Ginny that now that she can hear she was sorry for thinking this way for the last twelve years. I thought that was an awesome confession!
Julie kept on about how she can hear the dishes, silverware a teapot boiling and so on, all with tears streaming down her eyes. I asked if she was alright and she replied ” I am crying because I am happy and I can’t believe I waited this long to find out what I have been missing”.
This is just one story of two I had this day…. I love this job!
