Harry was fit with Exelia’s a few weeks ago. He is a current wearer of 07 Siemens and really struggling to understand his friends and t.v., his discrim is about 36%, not an easy task. He is a really nice man, he suffers from Parkinson’s disease and has the shakes really bad in his right hand, oh and has macular.

I delivered him last week and we really worked hard on word testing, he actually did really well, after some adjustments that day his discrim went from 40% to 80%. That was with the words that I gave him, made some adjustments and re-gave the test, I was floored. He is the first person I have met that had such poor discrim and didn’t have higher than normal expectations, he is very down to earth.

So on my first visit to see him this week I was a little nervous because he does watch a lot of t.v. and he really wanted to hear it better. T.v. is so hard to hear any ways, so I was a little afraid to ask how he was doing. So, when I got there I just bit the bullet and said “so how have you been doing”? He looked at me and said he is doing really well. His second comment to me was ” I don’t know what you did, but I can hear real well”. I felt very overjoyed for him and breathed a sigh of relief, so we worked on more word testing and he did well. His ear mold hurt a little so I went into his bathroom to grind it down over the sink, he has one of those bathrooms with a noisy fan that comes on when you turn the light on. So being the air head I can be at times I proceeded to talk to him while I was in the bathroom with the fan roaring away, forgetting that he can’t hear well and I was blabbing away as I do best. Well it hit me like a ton of bricks that this man was answering every question I was asking him even with all of the noise and a wall between us!!!!!!!!!!

Amazing is all I can say. He said that in the dining room he could hear his table mates much better, it isn’t perfect but he knows he is not going to get perfection. I believe that he was fit with the right tools to make his understanding as best as possible. Independent 20 channels to make the fine tune adjustments helped me out tremendously. The Sound Relax made his wall a/c unit quiet so he can hear t.v., and that unit isn’t quiet either. I believe with all of the channels and the best noise filters this made this a great delivery and a happy patient.

I was working with a patient today that was having a very hard time with hearing on his cell phone. I have been working with this product called the Noizfree Beetle and trying it out on different devices. Now I was told that it will only work with BTE’s(behind the ear) not ITE’s. I was told that the T-Coil in the ITE(in the ear) will not get tripped because the silhouette is behind the ear. Well I love a challenge, so I decided to order a Noizfree Beetle and put it on my patient with the ITE hearing instrument and give him a dedicated T-coil program.

To my surprise he could hear on his cell phone without putting it up to his ear using the Noizfree Bettle. His phone rings he puts his hearing instrument into T-Coil mode and he is talking away hands free. Now the kicker is he does not have a Bluetooth compatible cell phone, so I used the wired noizfree that hooks into his cell phones headset jack and it worked like a charm.

Another cool thing I found out about this product is I plugged it into the headset jack of a landline phone and it also worked. Blew me away! Technology can be a wonderful thing.
