Peggy’s Story with some extra’s:

This is a story about Peggy one of our patients in NPR. Peggy was fit with Phonak Extra’s(2) on delivery everything went well and she could hear better, but the real test will be out in the real world. She volunteers with SOLVE (clothes, car seats for expectant mothers that don’t have a lot of money) and she is on the phone and talking with people everyday. On our first visit she said she could hear better but there were a few complaints about environment changing to often making her ability to hear in a noisy situation a little more difficult.

Well, the new Certena and Versata’s have just came out and I talked about upgrading to the new model of Certena. I ordered her the new Certena and after the first follow-up visit she could tell a huge improvement. She was able to give me great feedback about the new product versus the old. She said she could go into different environments and it wasn’t noticeable when it was switching, and she also mentioned that the sound quality was a lot sharper. In a noisy situation like a restaurant she said she could hear her friends at the table for the first time. WOW!!!!! Just imagine changing places with her and going to a restaurant with your friends and can’t participate in the conversation, how would this make you feel? Then you just got a new hearing instrument and you go out and are able to converse, now how would you feel about yourself? Pretty cool….

Mr. Z what an incredible guy, if you have never met him before you might think he might be a little out there, but he really isn’t. Once you get to know him he is really a very intelligent man, he can remember things that I personally thought he would have forgotten when I would see him a week later. Not him! This guy is so cool, he has a very profound hearing loss and when I went to deliver his new hearing instruments I assumed that it was going to be a huge challenge. He sits in a wheelchair most of the day and lives in a retirement home that is very small and not a lot to do, so communicating is very important to him.

His niece was present at delivery and wasn’t very encouraging at first because of his hearing loss. When I started working with him his eyes opened real wide and he says ” Now if the new hearing instruments can sound like the way I am hearing now I will be very happy”. I told him that he is wearing his new hearing instruments and he looks at me again and said “Oh, this is really good”. You have to know him to understand that his Oh, this is really good is like us saying WOW!!!!!!!!! Awesome!!! He really was excited and his niece could not believe it either.

He received his new Naida V’s about two months ago and has been progressively getting better each week. He keeps telling me that these are the best hearing instruments he has ever had, I feel great that he tells me this but he never tells me why he feels this way. He just says ” they are” and that is the end of the conversation. I saw him today and he finally let me know why he is so happy, he says ” I can finally go to dinner and talk with my table mates and I can hear them, I feel more confident when I wear them.”

He kept going on about how confident he feels now, that just puts a huge smile on my face. I really feel that we made a difference in this man’s life. Thank you God for giving me the opportunity to help this wonderful man. The Naida V’s were able to move the speech from the high frequencies with Sound Recover to a better frequency so his speech understanding could increase. He has Directional mics(Voice Zoom) for the noisy dinner room which aids him to hear under not so great listening environments, knocking down noise in 12 different channels.

What a pleasure it is for him to be my patient, you gotta love it!
